Music 2019

We've always said 'We're Not a Music Festival - we're a Festival with Music'! This year, our line up has been curated by the lovely & talented  Dale Barker - Lawrenny Resident, ardent Music lover, real-ale fan - and known to partake in Family Yoga sessions at The Big Retreat Wales!. Here's his update on our Music line up for 2019...

"Feeling good is central to the Big Retreat Experience, and for me nothing makes me feel better than good music (well, perhaps as well as a long hike and a great curry, perhaps a crisp amber ale in the sunshine, getting a hug from my kids….

…anyway, music is often in the background to all of those things in my life and music is certainly very important to us here at TBRW.

We have been working hard to ensure that this years musical line up lives up to our ethos of discovering something new, making you feel good, and much of it sourced in Wales. We have been working with several Welsh labels, based in Cardiff and Swansea and we are looking forward to showcasing a mixture of alternative pop, electro, folk, blues and even if we are lucky, some opera! We’ll keep you posted as we confirm the acts!

We are continually listening to what’s hot and new and believe that often, what we have closest is often best.  We are planning two stages this year, a smaller more intimate daytime stage and our larger evening ‘main stage’.

Meanwhile, who’s coming this year? Check out the Bubblewrap Collective from Cardiff, a fantastic label with a whole host of bands of who we are just in the last stages of agreeing a number of bands to perform for us. Monmouthshire based Rusty Shackle were amazing last year on the Sunday night, so we’ve brought them back, this year headlining the Saturday night! Get ready to get up and dance to their foot stomping contemporary, folk-roots style anthems! Sunday night is headlined by ‘alternative pop act’ Febeuder. Get ready for this Ascot based band, that with their eclectic abstract indie, postmodern symphonic sound, yeah really…best have a listen! And let’s not forget Matthew Frederick (Climbing Trees), booked for the third year running, as we love his laid back, moody but mesmerising solo act.

Some of this year’s the music highlights included  Sock, HMS Morris. Rosie Cale, Dan Bettridge, Bare Foot Dance of The Sea, Madi, Skybarkers, Mazaritis, Cambrensis, Alaias, I See Rivers, Porcelain Hill and La Forme
At the Big Retreat Wales there’s something for everyone’s music taste and you’ll be sure to find something new to love!
Big Love

Dale
